Ha llegado la noche que es el equivalente a una guerra civil para los cinéfilos: los Oscars. Es la noche en que muchas de las películas que entraron a mi top 10, tienen que competir entre sí como si una fuera mejor que la otra (cuando en realidad todas las nominadas – que he visto – son buenísimas). Pero, de todas formas, como es costumbre año tras año, aquí les dejo mis predicciones:

Hasta ayer estaba seguro de que este premio se lo llevaba The Shape of Water o Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. No me malinterpreten, no es que pienso que alguno de esos dos filmes se lo merecen, sino que han sido los favoritos en toda esta temporada de premios. Pero a la Academia le gusta dar de que hablar, y que mejor que darle el premio al underdog del año. Además, el filme de Jordan Peele se llevó el premio en la ceremonia de los Spirit Awards, que tomó lugar anoche, y el ganador de los Spirit Awards tiene fama de también llevarse Best Picture. Veremos.

La Academia sabe que le debe este premio hasta Del Toro desde Pan’s Labyrinth. Y siento que, al igual que hicieron con DiCaprio hace dos años, le darán el premio de mejor director al cineasta mejicano porque “se lo deben”. Debería ganar Paul Thomas Anderson, pero todos sabemos que eso no va a pasar.

Tengan en cuenta de que aún no he visto Darkest Hour, pero siguiendo el trend de la temporada de premios, y debido al hecho de que, igual que a Del Toro, la Academia “le debe” este premio a Gary Oldman, es MUY probable que este sea quien se termine llevando el Oscar a su casa. Debería ganar Timothée Chalamet. ¿Porqué? Vean esos últimos segundos de Call Me By Your Name.

Aquí un premio con el que sí estoy 100% de acuerdo. Allison Janney ha arrasado en la temporada de premios, y con razón. I, Tonya tiene varias cosas muy buenas, pero la mejor, sin duda alguna, es Allison Janney.

Sam Rockwell, al igual que McDormand, da uno de los mejores performances del año en Three Billboars, pero, al igual que McDormand, el mejor performance como actor de reparto lo dio Willem Dafoe en The Florida Project. La Academia “le debe” el premio a ambos actores, pero siento que escogieron el actor incorrecto para premiar este año. Espero que haya una sorpresa en esta categoría, pero no tengo muchas esperanzas.

Todos los guiones en esta categoría son buenísimos, pero, teniendo en cuenta que la categoría pretende premiar a un guión ORIGINAL, siento que no hay nada más original en esta categoría que el guión de Get Out. The Big Sick podría sorprender en esta categoría, y, honestamente, ese sería mi segunda opción, pero no darle este premio a Peele es casi un pecado.

Un 90% de Call Me By Your Name es puro diálogo. Y, no solo el diálogo es buenísimo, sino que también tiene el mejor monólogo del año. No puedo estar más de acuerdo con la Academia en esta categoría (claro, si lo gana Call Me By Your Name).

Una Mujer Fantástica es un desgarrador vistazo a la homofobia, el perder a alguien, y el proceso de duelo. Daniela Vega da uno de los mejores performances del año (una pena que no haya sido nominada), y Sebastián Lelio es, quizás, el mejor director en salir de Chile desde Pablo Larraín. The Square puede sorprender, y esto no me molestaría en lo absoluto (también es buenísima), pero lo veo difícil.
